I've done a few Whole30s over the years, including one right this minute — day 3, (i.e. THE WORST DAY WHEN I JUST WANT TO EAT SPOONFULS OF SUGAR).

Anyway, sugar cravings will soon pass. Hang in there, self.

I've been working on putting together more resources for those embarking on their first or fourth round of this food/self-control reset we call the Whole30. It gets a little easier every time because you will discover some go-to recipes and meals that you won't get sick of eating.

My small but mighty cookbook library includes a couple of volumes that have really helped me get through each round by supplying me with fresh recipe ideas and some great meal planning tips.

Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People who Love To EAt 

Though she  doesn't know it yet, Melissa and I are going to be best friends someday. She loves her spices, I love my spices. She's half Lebanese, I'm half Indian (close enough!). She's a badass former roller girl, I'm a roller girls spectator. She's a hilarious writer, I like to think that I'm a hilarious writer. Really though, I respect this woman so much and her book is genius. She not only dishes up bold flavors and paleo hacks, but the book is laid out in the exact way my brain works. She helps with meal planning, offers other additional suggestions for each recipe and leaves no question unanswered. My copy is covered in turmeric and coconut oil and I don't even care. Well Fed 2: More Paleo Recipes for People Who Love To Eat

And then she wrote another cookbook that's also awesome! My favorite section of this one is the bangers, balls and burgers bit where she offers up a dozen or so seasoning formulas that start with a pound of ground meat. Buy it here.
 

Well Fed Weeknights: Complete Paleo Meals in 45 Minutes or Less

Yeah, I am definitely advising you to buy all three of Mel's cookbooks. You won't regret this. And no, I am not secretly being paid by her to say these nice things. This one is especially good for Whole30s. It's nice to get dinner in your face fast. Buy it here.
 

Nom Nom Paleo: Food For Humans

The chicken. The green sauce. The homemade sriracha. Some of Michelle Tam's recipes are a little more difficult than I like to attempt during a Whole30 (I prefer to keep it simple), but others are in heavy rotation (especially the green chicken and the Peruvian chicken). The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom

This is where it all begins. Well, for me it was actually Melissa and Dallas Hartwig's first book, It Starts With Food, but that's more of a nutrition book than a cookbook so it's not on this list. The Whole30 book is an upgrade from that, with even better meal planning and cooking resources. No doubt that the official Whole30 Cookbook, which was released in 2016, is also a good one to keep in your kitchen. The Love and Lemons Cookbook

Not paleo specifically, but this gorgeously designed book is full of plant-forward recipes that are either Whole30-compliant already or require a little bit of adaptation to fit into the plan. At any rate, I always welcome extra inspiration when it comes to vegetables, so I love paging through this one. The photography and design is really stunning and makes me want to eat zucchini ribbons all day. Buy it here.
